Norwich City can confirm that Ben Godfrey has completed a permanent transfer to Premier League side Everton for an undisclosed fee.

As part of the deal City are set to receive a club record transfer fee for Godfrey, surpassing the figure that saw James Maddison depart for Leicester City in the summer of 2018.

Godfrey leaves City having made a total of 78 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals.

He joined Norwich from York City for an initial £150k fee in January 2016. His senior debut for the club came in the following August, as he appeared as a second-half substitute and scored in the 6-1 EFL Cup victory over Coventry City at Carrow Road.

After spending the entirety of the 2017-18 season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, Godfrey returned to Norwich, forming an integral part of Daniel Farke’s Sky Bet Championship-winning side.

Following promotion to the Premier League, Godfrey was once again a mainstay in City’s defensive backline. He made a total of 30 Premier League appearances in City’s return to the top-flight.

His performances at Norwich also earned Godfrey international recognition. He was first called up to the England Under-19 squad in March 2019, before stepping up and captaining the Under-21s in September 2019.

All at Norwich City would like to thank Ben for his efforts and commitment to the club and wish him well in his future career in the game.

Norwich City is delighted to show its support for the EFL and Mind’s ‘Do One Thing’ campaign, in the build up to World Mental Health Day on Saturday, October 10.
