The NBA announced their All-NBA Teams today, and Thunder Guard Chris Paul made it onto the league’s All-NBA Second Team as one of the two guards.

This is not surprising news as Paul, and the Thunder have been media darlings all season long for overachieving. While Paul’s traditional stats are not eye-popping (17.6 PPG & 6.7 APG), his advanced metrics, leadership, and clutch play this season helped reshape his image from a negative asset to a top four-guard.

Paul continues the tradition of at least one Thunder player named on an All-NBA team since the 2009-10 season when Kevin Durant was named to it.

From a front office perspective, this could help the Thunder’s pitch as to why teams should trade for the 35-year-old guard despite making $85.6M in the next two seasons. Paul can help reshape the culture of a team like the Knicks, while still playing like an elite point guard.

Paul’s steadiness in high-stress situations could also help teams with championship aspirations need someone to come in and steady the ship in the playoffs, like the Bucks and 76ers. Paul could be what pushes them over the top.

This is a well-earned accolade for Chris. He made the absolute best of his situation when he did not have to. And now, Paul will reap the benefits of his labor by earning his ninth All-NBA appearance to his already impressive HOF career.
