The Hong Kong races take place in Sha Tin on Sunday and there are a few key stages as we move closer to the Hong Kong international races in December Here is our look at the action READ: Sha Tin Selections

CHEERFUL STAR (9) can get closer to opening The gallop trained by Frankie Lor completed two races this time around and was not adapted above 1650m on the all-weather track during the restart before closing well to fill exactly behind Beauty Angel on October 24 He was close to 2000m here at the end of last season and just needs barrier luck 11 DYNAMIC EAGLE (7) can improve from recent races He did well to finish 4th at Happy Valley after having drawn wide over 1800m on November 8 and should have a good time from barrier 3 The race lacks a bit of speed and FULL POWER (6) could maybe capitalize It settled in the same race as Cheerful Star la last time before moving to 6th, but wasn’t far over the 1800m here before that when he was 3rd at Natural Storm SKY GEM (12) is a lightweight contender who runs well over the distance Understand Selections: 9-7-6-3

Race 2 features lightly run types as well as beginners On the exposed form EVERYONE’S DELIGHT (2) appears to be a top contender The four-year-old won on his 1200m debut here, but no did not live up to the skillful Courier Wonder last time, finishing second behind this horse He can bounce back in the absence of this horse despite a wide draw HARMONY N BLESSED (8) sparks interest Magnus’ son makes his debut for the David Hayes team and arrives with three winning tries CLASSIC POSH (1) falls in class and was not far off when 5th at Ka Ying Master on track and travel on Nov 1 3kg claimant Jerry Chau rides CHARITY GRACE (5) may be a disagreement improver after finishing 11th at his debut He hovered around the track that day and drew better with Joao Moreira to ride this time around Selections: 2-8-1-5

The first of three Group 2 races is the Jockey Club Mile and it is impossible to tip GOLDEN SIXTY (2) The winner of last season’s Hong Kong Derby (2000m) has won both starts this season and comes with a five-week hiatus after beating KA YING STAR (3) at the Sha Tin Trophy (1600m) on October 18th Although he only won this meet by half a length, he has traveled extensively throughout long and had the advantage when it counted He drew the inner barrier and it’s hard to see that this is a problem in the little field Ka Ying Star will lead them and could enjoy a cushy moment up front MIGHTY GIANT ( 7) faces his acid test The five-year-old has trotted five, dropping from a big Class 4 victory in February to knock out a Class 2 pair this season He won’t be far in the race with Purton on board SOUTHERN LEGEND (1) still seems to be hiding in those races and can be included in the first four calculations Selections: 2-3-7-1

TRIPLE TRIPLE (2) can get closer to race 4 in the afternoon The six-year-old has contested three points this season and is getting closer to a victory In his last start he remained 3rd behind Super Red Dragon and has since won a winning try HALL OF CHAMP (1) fell to this level for his first round of the season, which was November 1 In this race he was wide for the trip, but with a blanket, and ran well at home to finish second behind Authentic Champ He drew better this time around and is another who gets the weight relief with Chau to ride There seems to be a little bit of pace in this race and it could play into the hands of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE (12), who likes to come back He was a winner at class level 5 three starts ago and has since finished 5th and 4th MORE THAN ENOUGH (3) won’t be far away Selections: 2-1-12-3

A number of these are from the recent Premier Bowl (1200m), which was released by WISHFUL THINKER (4) from COMPUTER PATCH (7) On this occasion, Wishful Thinker stood up tightly as Computer Patch was wavering a bit on the corporate side However, it’s the 4th placegetter, HOT KING PRAWN (1) who may be the big improver He was the first that day and more than two lengths at the end, but he meets the other two better at weights In his second round last season he narrowly missed his Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint victory (1200m) behind Mr Stunning This will be his last lead as he heads towards this race to face the likes of Classic Legend Denman’s son drew perfectly in barrier 5 and takes the beef from Moreira The new horse on the scene is STRONGER (3), who ran smooth sections scoring above 1000m here on November 1 The four-year-old looks like he’s come back in good condition and shouldn’t be too far Selections: 1-7-3-4

This is shaping up to be one of the best support races in group events as Class 2 gallopers tackle the 1800m LAKESHORE EAGLE (4) may improve on his only round of the season that saw him place 6th behind Excellent proposition In this race the six-year-old settled in the back and made good ground in the straight to finish three lengths He has had nine weeks between races, but has done well with similar gaps in the past and strung together three trotting wins at the end of last season. The former French galloper PACKING WALTHAM (7) was useful in his debut in HK, running 5th behind Columbus County and should take an improvement from this race TIANCHI MONSTER (8) comes out of the same race and seems to run better here He was a finalist in Excellent Proposal in the same race as Lakeshore Eagle last time Watching betting for former Australian horse, WINNING DELIGHT (11) He resumes after a 35-week break and was the first winner of the 1400m in his last preparationCaps: 4-7-8-11

The last of the Group 2 events is the Jockey Club Cup (1800m) and EXULTANT (1) will be there to turn the situation around on FURORE (3) after descending towards this horse in the Ladies Purse (1800m) on November 1 On this occasion, the multiple winner of Group 1 took over and just missed the dash at the end He meets the winner 3kg better at weights and will undress COLUMBUS COUNTY (8) is an interesting candidate The former Kiwi took a little time to get started in Hong Kong but have won their last two games, the ones coming on either side of the break between seasons He won a two-length victory at the Class 2 level at Happy Valley on October 28 and enters if the tempo is authentic. DANCES WITH DRAGON (6) will also be running and was just behind Exulting in the Ladies Purse when 3rd in this race Understand Selections: 1-3-8-6

Much will depend on the pace of this race with MIGHTY VALOR (9) ready to lead them The four-year-old was allowed to dictate at class level 4 last time around and won by three lengths over Inno Legend The progressive type will be dangerous if he gets it on his own terms BIZ POWER (11) is a backmarker who will be difficult to keep up with with Joao Moreira on board The seven-year-old has a moderate strike rate but hasn’t been away in a number of races now and looming as challenger KA YING MASTER (7) will attempt a treble of wins The five-year-old is another who could move forward and is expected to stay there for a long time SAVAQUIN (8) is an Australian expat who was solid in his first race in HK when he was 5th at Lobo’s Legend Understand Picks: 9-11-7-8

The undefeated LUCKY PATCH (3) participates in race 9 in the afternoon and can continue to progress after earning this rank the 4th name The former Queensland galloper, who raced as a paleontologist in his former homeland, was the AWT winner but did a nice kicking late into the play to score from Czarson He increases in weight but is worth staying with BEAUTY SMILE (1) drop in class after attempting to lead completely from a wide gate the last time He pulled wide again but will seek to cross and is in conflict with lucky early HEZA BEAUTY (5) was a winner on the track and made two starts back and has since finished second He’s in the mix with Neil Callan on board CIRCUIT SIX (2) can land in the top four Selections: 3 -1-5-2

Class 2 sprinters tackle the 1200m in the last race of the day and it will be interesting to see if WINNING DREAMER (10) can continue The picketer has won all four races of his career and advances to this rank for the first Times He did it from the front door on October 18th, leading all the way to hold fun scores and can either lead again or sit inside this time around. DUKE WAI (3) can improve on a first run which saw him place 6th behind Stronger He drew wide that day and didn’t have much room in the straight before finishing nicely Second in his last preparation, he scored over 1000 m at the level of class 4 before putting on three others at the trot, including one in this category CALIFORNIA RAD (4) is another final start winner after scoring on track and travel on Oct. 10 Fastnet Rock’s son had a recent six-length try and will move to midfield BEAUTY APPLAUSE (8) can land in the top four Selections: 10-3-4-8
