The Grooveyard started out as a music store selling vinyl records, and has come full circle as records are once again a popular product

– In 1987, after being deputy director of the music department at Kelly’s Stereo Mart, they closed and an opportunity presented itself for me to start my own business, â ?? said founder LeAnne Jakubeit

– It was a little scary because I was a single mom with two kids and had never ventured out on my own. I started subletting a small space in a stereo store and after two years, I moved to my own standalone store

â ???? Being a store within a store was the inspiration for the name â ?? The Grooveyard I also considered SoundGarden but there was a band by that name that was starting to get popularâ ????

She was soon to start a partnership with her husband, Andrew Jakubeit, who had a music distribution company The business would venture into wholesale and mail order, but still revert to retail over the years. , the store would be forced to adapt or reinvent itself to respond to fluctuations in demands and trends

For the past 30 years, the Grooveyard has always been located downtown and has offered a huge range of music and movies, as well as novelty and rock itemsWhether it’s a classic rock CD, t-shirt or poster, there is always something for music and pop culture lovers.Â

– We were fortunate to have clients who were children when we started coming back as adults with their own children added Jakubeit, who credits a terrific staff and supportive customer base for making it one of the few independent record stores still in business

– We were selling a lot online before we moved away; However, now we have relaunched our website and online presence, as that is part of staying relevant in the future. Says Jakubeit Lots of people enjoy the store when they come for a visit so hopefully this can turn into an online experience as we are more than just a record storeâ ????

To celebrate 30 years in business, savings of up to 30% will be made across the store with different categories on sale at different times of September For more details visit wwwgrooveyardca
