Judd Trump secured the fifth maximum break of his career by hitting a stunning 147 in his Northern Irish Open second round match against Gao Yang

Trump had opened the match with a 127, but two images later the world No.1 got better, with the 147 starting with a long, thin red, then showing a sinewy red in the upper left corner

Completed in just under 10 minutes, it turned out to be the 2019 world champion’s first maximum since the 2019 German masters, and came seven years after his first 147 pro at the Antwerp Open

The 147 is officially the 161st in professional snooker, Shaun Murphy also registering a maximum earlier this month

Trump finished the game easily at 4-0 as he continues his quest for a third rebound Northern Irish Open

“It’s always special,” Trump told Eurosport afterwards “It doesn’t happen that often – for me anyway The nerves you get don’t compare to anything else at snooker Winning tournaments – nothing Make maximums that you just shake It’s always nice to make one, especially on TV

« Normally when I get to 64, 72 the nerves start to come in, but you just think ‘I trained hard’, I felt like I was playing great yesterday in training But then it it’s about putting it on the matches table, my debut gave me a lot of confidence, a century in the first frame, and that really led to that «

Trump’s 147 sees him join an exclusive roster of players who have produced five or more maximums in their careers

Kyren Wilson won an exciting battle against Ken Doherty to reach the third round of the Northern Irish Open

A 96 break helped Wilson take the first frame, and this year’s World Championship runner-up then took a 3-0 lead to move into a win frame

However, it did spark Doherty in life, with the 1997 World Champion hitting a break of 90 and 71 before winning the sixth frame to force a decider

Doherty bet on a long red in the last frame, but a failure left white among the reds and this gave Wilson the opportunity to clear up in one visit

After opening the reds, Wilson seized his chance supreme, sealing the narrow 4-3 victory with a 135 to set up a third round match against either Michael Holt or Louis Heathcote

McGill opened with a stunning 142, then took a 2-0 lead before Pinches won three consecutive frames to go 3-2 ahead

McGill then forced a decider but it was Pinches who kept his cool in seventh frame with a 71 break

Meanwhile, a 133 break closed a 4-1 win for Luca Brecel over Rod Lawler, while breaks of 77, 86 and 77 helped Stephen Maguire recover from the loss of first frame for beat Alexander Ursenbacher 4-1
