BEIRUT – Lebanese police on Saturday tracked down 44 fugitive prisoners who escaped from a detention center on the outskirts of Beirut, calling locals residents must be on alert

The jailbreak comes as inmates across Lebanon called on parliament to approve a general amnesty bill, which would see thousands released from coronavirus-hit prisons

Lebanon has recorded more than 113,000 cases of COVID-19 including 884 deaths since the start of the epidemic in February
