Arsenal were busy in the summer transfer window, signing Thomas Partey for £45m from Atletico Madrid on deadline day and they are set to be active in January
After sealing deals for Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes, Dani Ceballos and Alex Runarsson earlier in the summer, all eyes were on if the Gunners would be able to add a midfielder to the ranks amid links to the Ghana international and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
Much to the delight of supporters, Partey’s £45m release clause at Atletico Madrid was activated on Monday evening and an official announcement came shortly after 11 pm.
Technical director Edu, who played a key role in the deal, would go on to explain why the 27-year-old was a key target for manager Mikel Arteta.
« Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal. He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club, » Edu told the club’s official website.
« We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times.
« With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad.
« We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club. »
As Partey arrived at the Emirates Stadium, two midfielders left on loan as Lucas Torreira joined Atletico and Matteo Guendouzi sealed a move to Hertha Berlin.
According to the Mail, as part of negotiations with the Bundesliga outfit, the Gunners have agreed a deal for Hertha’s 18-year-old centre-back Omar Rekik.
And as spotted by some eagle-eyed Arsenal fans – @CannonInsider and @GunnersForever2 on Twitter – Rekik has effectively confirmed the reports with two posts on his Instagram stories.

Expected to be part of the U23’s side, although fans will have to wait a few months to see Rekik in action.
As per Chris Wheatley, despite reaching an agreement with Hertha on Monday, the Gunners simply ran out of time to complete the deal and will therefore have to wait until January to announce the transfer.
With that said, Arsenal have confirmed deals for young strikers Joel Ideho and Nikolaj Moller to fill the void left in the striking positions by Tyreece John-Jules [on loan at Doncaster Rovers] and Sam Greenwood [sold to Leeds United].
