Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has officially announced his campaign to become New York City Mayor The move prepares him to join an overcrowded Democratic elementary school that is likely to determine the city’s next mayor, due to the coronavirus pandemic has suffered a severe economic blow
The 46-year-old tech entrepreneur said in a Twitter video posted on Wednesday night, « Seeing my city as it is breaks my heart » He promised to improve access to high-speed internet, control regain via the subway system and « intelligently reopen » «
« I’m running for mayor for my two boys, for you and for every New Yorker, » said Yang. « Let’s fight for a future New York City we can all be proud of »

Dozens have submitted documents for the mayor’s race, including several with technical and financial backgrounds. Yang has never held an elected office and started his first campaign when he ran for the 2020 Democratic President nomination
In that race, Yang outperformed current New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who ended his four-month campaign after single-digit polls and supported Senator Bernie Sanders De Blasio will be temporary this year
Yang’s run also coincided with the late and brief presidential campaign of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who preceded de Blasio
Yang was best known for his Universal Basic Income Platform, where 1$ 000 sent to all Americans over the age of 18 But his presidential bid failed to win many voters in the end. Yang dropped out after finishing elementary school in New Hampshire in February 2020, later supporting Joe Biden
The Democratic primary will take place in June 2021, and the winner will likely prevail in the city’s general election
