The building was expected to return to normal service on Wednesday morning, according to the city.

At around 3 p.m, it tweeted that Guelph police were on scene and the building on Carden Street was on lockdown.

In another tweet about 45 minutes later, the city said the situation had been resolved, but city hall would remain closed for the day.

It’s unclear what happened and Global News has reached out to the city and Guelph police for more information.

City hall has been closed for the most part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, except for the ServiceGuelph which is scheduled to reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
