The San Jose Earthquakes will look to dust themselves off and find three points in a crucial rivalry game against California Clasico foe LA Galaxy in a game scheduled for Sunday night at Earthquakes Stadium.
You probably don’t want to be reminded of this, but the Quakes are coming off their worst ever loss, a 7-1 thrashing against the Seattle Sounders Thursday. On short rest, perhaps the lack of time to ruminate will work in San Jose’s favor, as they’ve yet to win in four games since returning to the local phase of play in this bizarre 2020 season. But with the last game really being awful all around, this game against the Galaxy isn’t just a big rivalry game — it really could be the tipping point in San Jose’s season.
Meanwhile, since these teams last played a couple weeks back, the Galaxy still haven’t lost. They’re currently on a four-game winning streak since the local return, and all of their problems seem to have been solved, magically. They certainly aren’t perfect, and San Jose can take heart in having played LA so closely last time, but the Galaxy will be licking their chops at this matchup, and it will be up to the Quakes to spoil their current run.
It’s basically put up or shut up time for the Quakes. Can they do it? It’s going to be very interesting to see if they still have that fight to get results.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Saturday evening, San Jose are (+190) while LA are (+108). The odds of a draw are (+310), so the bookmaker’s making the Galaxy slight favorites, although it’s a close line considering the teams’ contrasting fortunes of late.
Sunday’s match between the Quakes and Galaxy will be televised nationally on UniMás and TUDN, which you can watch via FuboTV, and also streamed free on Twitter. The broadcast is scheduled to start at 8 pm PT with kickoff to follow.
