Jamie Carragher believes if Marcelo Bielsa can even somewhat replicate the job that Chris Wilder has done at Sheffield United, then people will be ‘raving’ about him.
Wilder took over at Bramall Lane back in 2016, when the Blades were in League One, and led them to the Championship, where they would finish 10th in their first season.
Sheffield United were then promoted to the Premier League in the following season after finishing in second-place during the 2018-19 campaign.
Wilder’s side were one of the favourites to be relegated back down to the Championship, but the former Blades defender led his beloved team to a ninth-placed finish.
Bielsa, meanwhile, has led Leeds United to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years and Saturday’s exciting performance has earned him plenty of plaudits.
The Whites were beaten 4-3 at last season’s champions Liverpool, but showed an attacking brand of football against the Reds.
Carragher, formerly of Liverpool, drew comparison to Wilder and Bielsa and believes the latter will do an amazing job if he can do “anything near” what the Blades boss has done.

“We’re talking about Bielsa coming into the league, we’re all excited for him and the Leeds team. If Bielsa does anything near what Chris Wilder’s done, we’d all be raving, doing columns, talking about him consistently,” Carragher explained on Sky Sports.
“Because Wilder brought Sheffield United up, the job he’s actually done, bringing them through the leagues, as Bielsa’s done, because it’s Bielsa, there’s a bit more mystique about it.
“But the job Chris Wilder has done has been outstanding. The problem is if Sheffield United finish 12th now, it will almost look like they haven’t done as well, or had a poor season, but actually, it’s still a great job if they do finish in those positions. I think it was a toss-up between him and Klopp for manager of the year.”
