Mark, also known as The Beast, has always shown a brave face in public spaces and sometimes even masked the turmoil that went on behind closed doors in his private life

Although he aims to be discreet about details of his romantic relationships and personal struggles, Mark’s love life has made headlines over the years – particularly regarding his open marriage to ex-wife Katie

In August last year, the TV star announced his split from Katie, who was 27 years younger than him

The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, first met on Facebook in 2010, where they instantly connected

Addressing the unusual circumstances in an earlier interview, Mark stated that he and his wife did not know they were having a family relationship before falling in love

The Chase star insisted, « We didn’t realize it then – it was one of those things that happened »

The couple enjoyed several happy years of marriage and welcomed their four-year-old son Lawrence before Katie began a secret relationship with designer Scott Bate before joining her husband

After Mark discovered Katie’s secret second life, he agreed to an open marriage to keep his family together

Mark spoke to The Sun about the couple’s arrangement and explained how the open relationship came about

« When Katie first came to me about her boyfriend, I had a clue. But from the start my attitude was pretty pragmatic – this was spilled milk What can we do about the situation to fix it?

Last year the two decided to end their marriage and Mark quoted the Covid-19 pandemic as saying it represented a « perfect storm » to end things

Despite having heartache over the breakdown of his marriage, Mark tossed over five stones during lockdown following his battle with the coronavirus

But since then he has managed to get his weight below 22 stone with the hope of falling even further

Mark lifted the lid on his Covid battle, which completely changed his appearance, and said to The Sun: « I had a complete loss of appetite, no sense of smell, temperature, exhaustion and the worst fever of my life

« I basically didn’t eat anything for two weeks, but the weight has continued to drop since then because I continued to eat sensibly. I knew I had to »

Despite suffering from coronavirus, Mark recently admitted that he is grateful to have gotten the virus because if he hadn’t, he would still gain weight

There’s no denying that 2020 was a year for Mark who somehow managed to kickstart his television career amid the pandemic

While one-fifth of the UK’s chasers, Mark has broadened his horizons and branched out to appear on both the American and Australian versions of the hit ITV quiz show

In 2013, Mark started the American version as the sole pursuer, and in early 2016 he appeared as one of six chasers on the Australian show

This was mainly due to the fact that American game shows usually allow far more competent participants than British or Australian shows
