Raheem Sterling is the latest name on the Manchester City injury list as he was forced to withdraw from the England squad.

Raheem Sterling has been ruled out of England’s three fixtures over the international break with injury, handing Manchester City another injury concern.

But the problem is a minor hamstring issue and is not expected to keep the player out for long.

City’s medical team will take a look at the problem now Sterling has been released by the FA, but it is hoped he will be close to a return to training after the international break.

The Blues  have seen key players like Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte and Ilkay Gundogan all missing for parts of City’s opening five fixtures.

Sterling has featured in all five of City’s games so far this season, scoring three times and assisting a further two goals, playing up front in the absence of Jesus and Aguero.

However, despite playing 90 minutes at Leeds on Saturday, Sterling has now been forced to withdraw from England duty for next week’s fixtures with a fresh injury.

England confirmed Sterling’s absence from the fixtures with Wales, Belgium and Denmark, with Chelsea’s Reece James replacing him in the squad.

Sterling now joins Cancelo, Jesus and Aguero, as well as Aleks Zinchenko, on the injury list at City, with the Blues facing a hectic schedule of at least two fixtures every week from the resumption of the Premier League season until the New Year.

Before the international break, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan is back in training after a period of self-isolation, while he hopes Jesus will be back after the international break.

Cancelo will link up with the Portugal squad, suggesting he is close to a return, while Aguero continues to train on his own as he recovers from knee surgery.

Kyle Walker is now the only representative from City in the England squad after Phil Foden was left out following ‘unacceptable’ breaches of Covid-19 policy during the last international break.
