Manchester United are working on a deal for Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is they fail to sign Ousmane Dembele, reports say. Coman was the hero in the Champions League final back in August, scoring the only goal of the game against former club Paris Saint-Germain. But it seems like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retains hope he can be recruited.
However, with the Bundesliga giants digging their heels in over a potential move away from the Westfalenstadion, the Red Devils have changed tact.
United want to sign Dembele from Barcelona on loan but the La Liga giants would prefer a permanent deal, with Memphis Depay lined up as the 23-year-old’s replacement.
Should Dembele fail to sign, then Ed Woodward could make Bayern Munich a serious offer for their prized asset.
However, given his importance to the Champions League holders, it seems unlikely Bayern would agree to an exit this late in the day.
The Bundesliga giants have re-signed Douglas Costa from Juventus on loan, with the Brazil international previously linked with United.
But, even with that the case, Woodward may struggle to get a deal done before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Monday night.
Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick lauded Coman for his Champions League heroics earlier in the summer, saying: “Perhaps he’s finally stepped out of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben’s shadow this season.
« I’ve not set a deadline for when the party has to stop. It’s only right to celebrate when you win something. You have to have a party and I don’t know when that party will end. »
And Danny Murphy thinks the Uruguay international can be an Old Trafford hit, admitting he’s a ‘big fan’ of the 33-year-old.
He told talkSPORT: “Jadon Sancho is overpriced, don’t get bent over as you’re making a rod for your own back.

“The defensive issues are obviously the problem, which can be fixed by a different tactical approach to a degree but I still think they should have gone out and tried to get a top centre-half.
“I think he’ll play two holding players in the next game and keep the full-backs in a bit.
“Pogba will probably have to be sacrificed and he might leave Fernandes out for a game or two.
“I’m a big fan of Cavani, I’m not suggesting Manchester United should be pinning their hopes on him but it’s naive to think they can just click their fingers and go and get Harry Kane.
“Unless you’re going to bring someone in that you can hang your hat on at United for the next six or seven years, why waste loads of money?
“Even if he plays up front and Martial goes to the right or left and Greenwood or Rashford gets left out, they can mix it up.
“Daniel James will want to get some game time and you’ve got Pogba and Fernandes who can play in behind.
“They’ve got options – you need options, you can’t just rely on the front three, and that’s why Liverpool have bought Jota.
“You can’t just rely on those three even though they did well after lockdown. Cavani is a proper striker, he leads the line, occupies centre-halves and gives you a focal point.
“I don’t know how fit he is but I think the Falcao one is a bit of an odd comparison, I didn’t understand that signing after his horrendous knee injury kept him out for a long, long time.
“They expected him to come to the Premier League and hit the ground running – yes, he was fit as in he’d recovered but he was never the same player.
