Manchester United  had been interested in a transfer for the Villa captain this summer, but the trail appeared to go cold after the Reds signed  Donny van de Beek  from Ajax for £35million.

After the deals for Van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes, plus this latest news on Grealish who has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, speculation surrounding the 25-year-old and Old Trafford move comes to a close.

After recently winning his debut England cap, Grealish has declared his delight at committing himself to boyhood club Villa until 2025.

« I am delighted to make this commitment to Villa, » he told  the club’s website.  « It is my club, my home and I am very happy here. The owners have made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Aston Villa.  There are exciting times ahead and I am very glad to be part of it.”

There are question marks over the fitness of several Manchester United players going into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Eric Bailly only returned to United training on Monday, while Bruno Fernandes began his work at the Aon Training Complex over the weekend. Phil Jones is also back in training, but unlikely to be picked for United’s season opener at Old Trafford in any case.

It’s time for Manchester United to take the hint. Borussia Dortmund have no intention of selling Jadon Sancho this summer.

In all truth, this is something United should have known for some time. Dortmund have said it enough times, issuing numerous updates from manager, chief executive or director of football, the trio taking it in turns to shoot across United’s bows in media appearances.

While United have largely kept their counsel on Sancho (albeit it has long been common knowledge the England star is their top transfer target) Dortmund have gone on the offensive. The situation reached ‘saga’ levels long ago when the German club set United an artificial deadline by which time they wanted them to have met the asking price. Now it’s just getting ridiculous, to put it bluntly.

United are not willing to sanction a cheque for £108million, most of which Dortmund want up front and without add-ons, in the current financial climate. Fine. If that is the case, they should walk away from negotiations for Sancho.

Gareth Bale has agreed to join Manchester United on a season-long loan but a deal must still be agreed with Real Madrid, according to reports.

With just three weeks left until the transfer window closes on October 5, United are looking to complete up to three more deals to add to the signing of Donny van de Beek.

While left-back Sergio Reguilon is being monitored, attacking signings remain the priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season as he hopes to add more quality and depth to his attacking ranks.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is still the top target but, although progress has been made in talks regarding the winger’s personal terms and agent costs, a transfer fee is still far away from being agreed between the two clubs.
