News – AU – BRT heartbreak as Slade crashes badly – Speedcafe

Tim Slade looked desperate after destroying his CoolDrive Mustang while battling for a podium on the Repco Mount Panorama 500

It had been a dream run for the new Blanchard Racing Team until then, the debut of which was led by Slade, who scored a front row start thanks to an excellent shooting lap

After a bad start from Mountain Straight shuffled him back to fifth, Slade got back into the mix as the carnage unfolded for front-runners Anton De Pasquale and Cameron Waters

Slade was on the heels of Super Mustar returnees Will Davison’s Shell Mustang in the battle for the final podium when everything went wrong as he approached Forrest’s Elbow on lap 36

In scenes reminiscent of Chaz Mostert’s 2015 horror qualifying crash, Slade slammed into the wall and was thrown into the air, out of control, as his car continued downhill

Slade was able to safely park at the inner exit of the elbow and soon walked out of the wreck – albeit clearly emotional

“I told the guys before the race that we did a lot more than we thought we could achieve this weekend Whatever happened in the race is a bonus”

“Not in the way we wanted, of course, but we’re five laps away from finishing in the top five in race one”

“Three months ago we didn’t have anything, we didn’t even have a workshop, so we have to keep our heads up

“Sladey did a fantastic job, Mirko [De Rosa, engineer], Brendan [Hogan, team manager], all the guys did a great job all weekend and got on board

It is not yet clear whether Slade will be able to return to action tomorrow, and significant damage is visible

Shane van Gisbergen won the race for the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team ahead of Mostert and Davison
