News – AU – Croft a sponge around Bronco’s legends

They were the half-duo that turned Brisbane into an NRL powerhouse, and Brodie Croft uses the knowledge of Kevin Walters and Allan Langer to take his own game to the next level

Croft’s debut campaign for the Broncos was unforgettable The youngster struggled to make an impression during the club’s horror run when he stumbled to a first wooden spoon finish

Pictures of the 23-year-old crying on the field after losing to the Warriors summed up the club’s troubles as the once-powerful Broncos fell to unprecedented lows

It was as far as possible when Walters and Langer steered the Broncos to multiple premierships in the 1990s

With Walters as the club’s head coach and Langer as assistant, the legendary couple are an invaluable resource for a young half like him, according to Croft

“It’s pretty cool that we’re training alongside, and being coached by, Kev and Alfie who have led this club to so many premierships as a semi-combination,” said Croft

“They like to detach ideas from one another, and then we can let ideas ricochet off one another, too

Croft says his game fell apart last year when he tried too hard to deliver on a team that broke up

After an off-season where the birth of his first child opened up a whole new perspective for him, the ex-Melbourne Storm prospect is eager to launch a campaign in 2021 that made him as much a sought-after talent as he closed the Broncos switched to a three-year contract in late 2019

“Obviously things weren’t going that well as a team, and then I tried to cover up my hand myself and find things that weren’t there,” he said

“So Kevvie was good at simplifying it, taking it off right away, and capitalizing on my strengths

“I just want to play my best footy brand again I know what I’m capable of”
