News – AU – Fourth woman claims former worker at the center of the rape allegations stroked her thigh

A fourth woman has made allegations against a former Morrison government employee who is at the center of a political crisis that is rocking the House of Parliament

A fourth woman has made an allegation against the man who is at the center of what is currently Australia’s biggest political scandal – the alleged rape of former employee Brittany Higgins in the House of Parliament

Two other women made allegations against the Australian newspaper after Brittany Higgins made her rape allegations public last week

The woman, who made an official report at a Canberra police station on Sunday, came forward after Ms. Higgins alleged last week that she was raped in the office of then Secretary of Defense Linda Reynolds after having a drink with the man in March 2019

Two other women – a Liberal worker and a former coalition volunteer – also blamed the Australian newspaper for having been sexually assaulted by the same former worker

The fourth woman, who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being, told ABC when she learned the identity of Ms. Higgins’ alleged rapist through employee networks, she winced – she remembered him as “really shabby”

After work in 2017, socialized with colleagues in Canberra’s Public Bar, the preferred drinking hole of the political class The woman said she was shocked when the man, who would later be identified as the employee who allegedly raped Ms. Higgins, reached the table under him and stroked her thigh

She said it wasn’t the first time she had received unwanted attention or advances from men she worked with in Parliament, and it wasn’t the last time

“I was so used to sexual harassment at this point that I just wiped it off,” she said

She made her statement at a local police station late yesterday afternoon and said she had been called within an hour by a detective from the Australian Federal Police Team on Sexual Assault and Child Abuse

She says the officer asked her to make a formal statement later that week

The woman said she would stand up to support Brittany Higgins because now that Ms. Higgins has called the police, she knows what a tough road ahead of them in criminal justice

Ms. Higgins said she had felt pressure not to file a formal complaint for fear of losing her job

Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologized for the way the matter was handled and said he had asked his staff what they knew about the incident

These recent allegations follow a Four Corners report in November on the culture of Parliament, including unrelated allegations against two government ministers
