A drive-by shooting rocked a Victorian suburb after a shooter opened fire next to a main road during rush hour

Detectives opened an investigation on Tuesday evening into a drive-by shooting in Patterson Lakes, South Melbourne, with the perpetrator still on the run as of Wednesday morning

A man was admitted to hospital after being shot in the lower body by a moving vehicle around 6 p.m. while walking through a parking lot on Thompson Road

Some reports indicate that the Patterson Lakes incident occurred in a parking lot across from Coles (pictured) where shoppers would have gathered after work

Some reports indicate that the parking lot in question is across from a Coles supermarket that would have been filled with shoppers after work

“The exact circumstances of the incident are being investigated, but investigators believe it was a targeted shootout,” police said in a statement
