To the delight of motorsport fans across NSW, the final round of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship is taking place on the Coffs Coast in New York November Premier John Barilaro announced today
The region hosted the World Rally Championship for seven years before the 2019 bushfires caused the event to be canceled and it was announced that rally cars would not return in 2020
Deputy Prime Minister John Barilaro and member of Coffs Harbor Gurmesh Singh announced 500 today$ 000 to mark the much anticipated rally on Jan. until 28 November to bring it to the north coast
“Holding another world-class rally in Coffs Harbor is overdue after bushfires and COVID forced the event to be canceled two years in a row,” said Barilaro
“The NSW Nationals are building a safer and stronger regional NSW by securing world-class events for country cities and bringing our incredible regions to the world.
“This is an example of what can happen when you have a council willing to work with government and stakeholders to bring world-class events to regional NSW”
The cancellation of the event in 2019 was a difficult decision as drivers and teams were rarely present However, it has shown how devastating bush fires can be to many unfamiliar with the risk
Six-time rally world champion Sébastien Ogier was moved by the ordeal and pledged financial support to organizations that treat injured and rescued wildlife
Andrew Fraser, President of Motorsport Australia, said he was delighted with the prospect of an international rally that would return to Coffs Harbor
“The Coffs Coast has been an important part of the Australian rally scene for the past few years and we know this event will be another fantastic event for the region in 2021,” said Fraser
“There is no doubt the Coffs community knows how to run a world-class rally and we are very excited to host this event which later in 2021 will see a great mix of competitors from Australia and overseas will be ”
The Australian Rally took place on the Coffs Coast for seven years, drawing thousands of spectators and a significant boon to the local economy
