News – AU – referee reverses own decision in bizarre scene

Referee Donovan Koch recently recalled one of an official’s most bizarre moments after reversing his own decision during the Swamp One Day Cup on Tuesday

Redbacks crank Peter Hatzoglou believed he bagged his first top-class wicket when he made an appeal to Sam Whiteman of WA

While it was an ambitious plea from Hatzoglou that Whiteman not look anywhere near the ball, many were surprised when Koch’s finger pointed straight up and dismissed the batsman in a bizarre scene

But as quickly as Koch made his first call, he turned it around just as quickly after realizing the mistake of his ways so that Whiteman could live another day

“He knows he did something wrong and has changed his decision,” said Stuart Clark in a commentary for Fox Cricket

Brett Lee added, “Well we couldn’t believe it. He fired him saying,” I got it wrong”

Despite the mistake, it was a brave job on Koch’s part to correct his mistake, and Stuart was all for it

“I give him full respect for them because normally you just give them out and panic about them”
