News – AU – The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro comes with essential filmmaking tools

Blackmagic is known to be a darling among indie and novice filmmakers – and its new flagship Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro should add to that reputation

This new Pro model is a revised version of the existing Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and offers some very handy new features, including a tilting screen, better battery and built-in ND filters

The new model ranks next to the standard 6K model and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K at the top of Blackmagic’s now three-headed pocket cinema cameras. But while it’s the premium model in the series, it offers plenty of filmmaking for its own Money

Like the existing 6K model, it has a Super35 sensor (a popular film format that’s similar in size to APS-C chips) and works with Canon EF lenses, which means there’s a wide range of compatible Glass offers

The name “Pocket” of the camera is a bit of a misnomer as it is a bit stronger than the 6K model, 1Weighs 238 g and measures 123 x 180 x 112 mm. This gives it a DSLR-like weight, but also means that it can be the most powerful camera in the range to date

Perhaps the biggest news is that the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro has a tilting screen, which was very popular with fans of the previous cameras. This 5-inch touchscreen LCD is also brighter than the standard display on the 6K model and offers a maximum of 1500 nits, which makes it much better to use in daylight

Another bonus is the improved NP-F570 battery, which has a lifespan of approx Promises 60 minutes (when recording 6K / 24p raw material) If you’re planning on long shooting outside of the charging stations in the field, there’s also a new Blackmagic Pocket Battery Pro Grip that adds two extra batteries for more than three hours of shooting on one charge

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro also offers a number of other useful new features due to its relatively low price

One of the most useful is the built-in ND filters, these motorized filters allow you to reduce the amount of light entering the camera for smoother motion in bright conditions They come in two, four, and six apertures and they were also apparently designed to match the camera’s color science, which is now identical to the high-end Ursa Mini Pro 12k

This new pocket cinema camera also offers the audio options thanks to the addition of a second mini XLR connector that doubles as a port for recording pro-level audio, meaning you record two separate audio tracks with two microphones You can also get a 35mm audio input for connecting external microphones as well as a built-in speaker and 35mm headphone jack for playback

without the need for an external mixer

The last big change is an optional electronic viewfinder that fits into the hotshoe mount of the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.This OLED EVF costs $ 495 / £ 425 / AU $ 789 and has a resolution of 1280 × 960, a proximity sensor and four different types of eyecups for the left and right eyes

Overall, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is emerging as a very good new tool for indie filmmakers. It packs a lot of professional video performance into a fairly small package – and is relatively affordable compared to other mirrorless cameras like the Canon EOS R5

You can get it now for US $ 2495 / £ 1879 / AU $ 3Buy 935 – that’s roughly double the price of the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, but the larger sensor and full feature set should make Blackmagic’s new flagship another hit with filmmakers
