News – AU – The Saints can’t score more than one goal as Crows ran rampant in 53-point AFLW thrashing

Star appearances by Ebony Marinoff and Erin Phillips pushed Adelaide to a tough 53-point win over St Kilda performed in Norwood Oval

The soaring crows kept the Saints late into their third term en route to an 8 goalless13 (61) to 12 (8) win in the Indigenous Round on Sunday afternoon, their first victory in their home country since the second round of the past season

It was a disappointing day for the Saints, who recorded their lowest score and worst defeat in their brief AFLW history

Marinoff (23 possessions and nine tackles) and Phillips (21 exits and one goal) were the standout features of the Crows who had winners on every line

Both defensive units had influence in the first quarter, with the only goal for the season coming from Phillips, who converted a free kick after the siren to give their side a nine point lead

But while the crows were able to tighten the defensive clamps in the second quarter, they could also find their feet offensively

Chelsea Randall continued their good form in attack to score Adelaide’s second big goal, and Teah Charlton took a 30-point lead in the main break

The halftime scoreboard told visitors a grim story, but worse was the one-sided 29-2 within 50

The Saints failed to get into their attacking 50 once in their second term and couldn’t conjure up a single ball possession within the strikers 50 for the half

Danielle Ponter and Ash Woodland hit the scoreboard to show St Deepen Kilda’s suffering after the break before Kate Shierlaw ran for a loose ball in the goal area to open the guest account two minutes ahead in the third quarter

Jessica Sedunary scored her first goal since returning to Adelaide from a stint with the Saints after the restart, and Justine Mules scored the first goal of her AFLW career as the Crows crossed to a percentage-increasing win
