News – AU – WA receives the first 5 this weekend000 doses of coronavirus vaccine, with priority being given to high-risk personnel

Western Australia will have its first 5 this weekendReceived 000 doses of COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine

WA Prime Minister Mark McGowan said quarantine and international border workers would be among the first Western Australians to be eligible for the vaccine

“Our quarantine hotel workers, including hotel staff, cleaners, police, security, and clinic staff who work in our quarantine facilities, are at greater risk of contracting the virus So it makes sense that they should be prioritized, “he said

“This applies to certain employees at our airports and ports, especially those who board and spend time on ships overseas”

High-risk frontline workers in elderly and disabled care are also eligible, with the federal government responsible for administering the vaccine to this cohort

“The trays of Pfizer vials will be kept in an ultra-cold freezer at Perth Children’s Hospital before being shipped to appropriate clinics over the next few weeks,” said McGowan

“As part of the national rollout, we were told that for the first three weeks every week about 5000 cans will come to WA

“This covers roughly 3900 doses for WA Health to deliver and approximately 1100 doses Commonwealth will give for the elderly and disabled care “

“This is because it takes two doses of the Pfizer vaccine for everyone to be fully vaccinated and each dose needs to be about three to four weeks apart,” he said

Mr McGowan said the roll-out would be extended to other priority groups at the end of March

“This group includes other health care workers, people over 70, adults with underlying medical conditions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders, and critical workers such as police and rescue workers,” he said

“I know there are some concerns about these vaccinations and I want to assure all Western Australians that you can have confidence in this vaccination program

“When the time is right, it’s my turn, I’ll get 100 percent of the vaccine. But I won’t jump in line and get in the way of someone who really needs it”
