One woman was killed instantly after being hit by a garbage truck on Tuesday morning

Rescue workers were called to Gurney Road in Chester Hill in western Sydney after a pedestrian was reportedly hit by the truck shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Paramedics were working on the woman on site (pictured above), but she could not be resuscitated

Police have since set up a crime scene and closed Gurney Road between Miller Road and Campbell Hill Road

The 32-year-old garbage truck driver was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol tests

Individuals with dashcam footage or witnesses to the accident are asked to call Bankstown Local Area Command or Crimestoppers at 1800 333 000
