News – GB – Osaka steams into the fourth round of the Open

Japanese powerhouse Naomi Osaka goes into the fourth round of the Australian Open after defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in straight sets

Osaka, the 2019 champions, will face 2020 finalist Garbine Murguruza in the first heavyweight duel of the Open, and neither of the two big winners will drop a sentence on their way to the final 16 at Melbourne Park

Murguruza, the 14th Seed used to storm past Zarina Diyas from Kazakhstan 6-1 and 6-1 and only lost 10 games during the entire tournament

The well-formed Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka met with Serena Williams after she had also advanced to the fourth round

Sabalenka, the seventh seed, was responsible from the first serve on Friday at the Rod Laver Arena and won 6-3 6-1 against American Ann Li

In other games, Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-Wei defeated Italian Sara Errani 6: 4: 2: 6: 7: 5 and the Czech 19 Saat Marketa Vondrousova had a 6: 2: 6: 4 win against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea

Sabalenka has never made it after the third round in Melbourne Park and only reached the last 16 once in a Grand Slam tournament – the 2018 US Open

But she comes into the tournament in excellent form and wins 18 of her last 19 games

The 22-year-old won the WTA 500 title in Abu Dhabi last month, which was her third straight title, and described her first game against Williams as a “thrill”

“It’s a big challenge, but it’s a difficult one, but I’ll do everything I can to prepare for this game,” said Sabalenka

“She’s huge and a great player, and I always think that playing against these types of players is a great challenge”
