The Minnesota Timberwolves sacked head coach Ryan Saunders after losing to the New York Knicks on Sunday night between 103 and 99

It was the club’s eighth loss in nine games, bringing the team’s record to an NBA worst 7-24

Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch to be announced as the team’s new coach, according to multiple reports The Timberwolves said they would make an announcement regarding a new coach on Monday

“We would like to thank Ryan for his time and dedication to the Timberwolves organization and wish him all the best for the future,” said Gersson Rosas, president of the Minnesota basketball division, in a statement

“These are difficult decisions, but making this change is in the best interests of the organization’s short- and long-term goals”

The Athletic Reported that Finch will be awarded a multi-year contract as Minnesota’s coach. The 51-year-old Finch is in his debut season with the Raptors and previously was an assistant with the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans

Sunday was only the 11th Time the two-time all-star center Karl-Anthony Towns played for the Timberwolves this season Cities missed six games with a dislocated wrist and 13 because of a coronavirus battle

Minnesota also has D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards on the list Edwards was # 1 overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft

Saunders is the son of the late Flip Saunders, the former coach and director of the Timberwolves
