Boris Johnson has confirmed that the government will continue to provide financial assistance to businesses and individuals as Covid-19 restrictions are phased out over the coming months, but he stopped giving specific details on what would be available

The Prime Minister on Monday outlined his plan to ease the lockdown in England and announced that all coronavirus restrictions would be removed by Aug. 21 as part of his four-step strategy June could be lifted

Some companies will be starting from the 12th April will be relieved if retail stores, as well as certain leisure and dining establishments, can reopen – although social distancing restrictions remain in place for a few more weeks, which will limit indoor socializing

With restrictions on certain businesses into the summer, the prime minister said the government intends to continue offering tax-funded support programs

“We are not going to pull the carpet out,” he told MPs. “Throughout the pandemic, the government will continue to do everything possible to protect jobs and livelihoods across the UK”

He did not elaborate on what that support would look like, but did confirm that Chancellor Rishi Sunak would make further announcements during his budget next week

Mr Sunak is under pressure to extend current measures, including the vacation program, which is due to expire in late April

The government’s roadmap to the unblocking released when the prime minister gave his address stated that ministers were “obliged to do everything possible to help the country through the Covid-19 pandemic, and support will continue “

“The budget from 3 March will outline the next stage of the government’s employment plan, including further details on economic support to protect jobs and livelihoods across the UK

“The approach will reflect the steps set out in the roadmap: As restrictions ease and the economy reopens gradually and safely, the government will carefully adjust the level of support to individuals and businesses to reflect changing circumstances wear

“Despite unprecedented financial aid, the government also recognizes that it will not be possible to keep every job or business. Therefore, the government will continue to help people find new jobs, acquire new skills, or get new businesses start when we better recover from the pandemic ”

Union leaders have warned that uncertainty about what financial aid will be available will put jobs at risk, despite promises of more support

TUC Secretary General Frances O’Grady said: “The government needs to stop shaking and delaying and extend the full vacation program for at least the remainder of 2021 and urgently provide support for the self-employed

“With jobs and livelihoods in balance, there is no need to keep workers and companies waiting”

Manuel Cortes, Secretary General of the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association, said, “While there is light at the end of the tunnel, the Prime Minister today has left many industries with ongoing questions and support needs”
