News – UK – Mason Greenwood advises Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his prime position at Man Utd

United’s bilateral teenage talent can take on a variety of attacking roles and looks forward to a bright future after signing the club through 2025 with his view of a certain role

Mason Greenwood has given manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a clear message by admitting that he will eventually take on the coveted center-forward role for Manchester United

The 19-year-old has been a revelation since joining United’s first team, scoring 17 goals in his first full season last season

Greenwood, who signed a new deal this week through 2025, was a little slower in 2020/21, having only four goals in their 30 appearances so far

In most of these appearances, the teen has lined up on the right side in a three-man attack, but it’s believed that over time he will become a more central position

And while aiming to be the focus of the attack long-term, he admitted United legend Rio Ferdinand that he may not be quite ready yet

“I’m not sure,” said Greenwood Ferdinand during their Instagram Live chat when asked what position he sees himself playing in

“I always wanted to be a striker when I was young, but I was also a winger on the youth team and obviously I was really between the two at the academy

“I’d love to play up front as I get older, fill in a little more and get a little bigger and stronger for the middle halves, which, as you know, are always big and strong at the back

“It’s a place I want to play, center-forward at some point, but I’m always happy on the right side and it’s a good position to really work””

Greenwood has the rare talent of being able to hit the ball equally well with both feet – a formidable trait that some of his United teammates have pointed out

That certainly helped his transition to the United States by giving Chef Solskjaer plenty of options along with older stars Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford

Solskjaer even commented on Wednesday that Greenwood has the qualities necessary to become a No. to fulfill10 role, if necessary, but agrees that his future is more likely to take the lead

“He can play right, center forward, 10 and maybe left on one track. We just have to give him time to find his final position,” said Solskjaer

“He’s a striker who is moving very well at the moment, both in age and development.

“Physically, sometimes you don’t want to be completely in the mix and in the middle with the big brutal center-backs next to you I think we’ve found that he can really play both

“That will be in the next year or two if he’s going to be a no9 or a striker or, as I said, a shadow striker in and around the goal

“We definitely need him there, although his connection play and general play have improved a lot”
