Organized sport for adults and children – including grassroots football – can be used from 29 March will return outdoor facilities such as tennis and basketball courts and outdoor pools will also reopen. Mr Johnson said this included allowing “formally organized outdoor sports” to resume “under supervision.”

The students will also benefit from the move as the schools from the 8th March return and the sports school will restart

Indoor halls and leisure facilities such as swimming pools may not be allowed until 12 April to be opened again However, the requirements for indoor social contact remain

“Outdoor sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts as well as outdoor swimming pools can be reopened, and formally organized outdoor sports will be resumed under guidance”

In step three of the roadmap, in which the ban is lifted, fans are not allowed to start until the 17th May attend sporting events

Mr Johnson said, “The turnstiles of our sports stadiums will turn again, with capacity restrictions depending on the size of the venue in each case”

Larger events will be piloted using “advanced testing” to further ease restrictions in the next step, Johnson

Vaccination Minister Nadhim Zahawi confirmed earlier this morning that outdoor sports would stop on Jan. March would return, including organized team sports, but declined to say when the gyms might reopen

“The simple point of view is that the outdoors is safer and so we have priority over the indoors,” he told LBC

“Outdoor sports – tennis, golf, organized outdoor team sports, grassroots football – will be held on 29 March take place ’

When the gyms and fitness centers were able to reopen, he added: “Right now it’s outside and inside. Outdoor is a priority because the transfer rates are much lower here”

On Sunday, a senior government scientist called for the ban on outdoor sports to be lifted immediately, stating it was safe

Professor Woolhouse highlighted studies showing that the percentage of outdoor Covid infections is extremely low and told The Observer, “This virus is very rarely transmitted outdoors. Honestly, outdoor activities that don’t close physical contact could now be adopted

“That is not an argument for the fact that we can have crowds again at soccer games. But sports with few players or sports for children: You could start completely safely today”
