News – UK – Referee explains why Blackpool’s game against Doncaster Rovers was canceled

Buzz of Portsmouth win counts little if Blackpool fails against Doncaster Rovers

The game was canceled shortly after a pitch inspection at 6 p.m. due to a soaked playing field

There were several patches of stagnant water on the field with the ball barely rolling in areas

Lewis and his team took a look at the surface as soon as they arrived on Bloomfield Road around 5:00 p.m., the game starts at 7:00 p.m.

A formal pitch inspection did not take place until 6pm as the referee had to wait for the Doncaster officials to arrive

A member of the referee team tried to kick the ball but barely moved ten feet

“The rain has receded a lot in the last few hours and has unfortunately taken its toll on the field,” said Lewis

“Currently, as we are standing here and the rain is falling, the field is not playable

“Then there is a risk that more rain will come through for the rest of the evening if you look at the forecasts

“My main concern is the safety of players and there are also situations where the integrity of the game is compromised by the fact that the ball does not move naturally”

This is the seventh Blackpool game to be postponed this season and the fourth due to the weather in 2021

The scheduled home game against Northampton Town was canceled due to an overcrowded field, while more games on Bloomfield Road against Burton Albion and Peterborough United fell on a frozen field

Previously, Sunderland, Rochdale and the first Burton date were postponed due to Covid-19 outbreaks in opposing teams

The seafarers are already catching up in the premier league after playing only 26 games, three or four fewer than several teams in and around them

The club only has one free midweek until the end of the season, which is between the last two games of the season
