Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) opened this evening (Sept. Feb) on Coronation Street for Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), noting how she got indebted ‘up to her eyeballs’ after leaving Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew)
In today’s ITV soap double bill, Alya discovered a series of definitive letters of inquiry to Yasmeen (Shelley King)
She soon learned that her grandmother was seriously in debt because Geoff had taken out loans on her behalf, and now that he’s dead, it appears that it is up to Yasmeen to repay it
Yasmeen apologized for hiding the letters, but Alya was worried about how to handle the situation
Elaine then revealed that Geoff had done the same to her decades ago, so she was ultimately forced to repay the money
“I paid for everything in the house,” she said, “every furniture rod and I went away with nothing”
“The banks didn’t believe a word of it,” she continued, “I had to repay every penny. It took me years, needless to say, that my credit rating has never recovered
“Times have changed, Alya Nobody had heard of forced control in my time, but now I’m sure the bank needs to be more enlightened’
