News – UK – The dilemmas Lee Johnson faced ahead of Sunderland’s clash with Swindon at 7pm tonight

The Black Cats have had an excellent year 2021 so far and have only lost one game in all competitions since mid-January

This string of results has led the club to plunge into play-off competition, and the team now even has an outside chance to push for the top two places

Sunderland lost points to Crewe Alexandra over the weekend, however, so the focus for the Wearsiders will be on beating Swindon again

Lee Johnson can’t complain about his team’s performance lately, but I’m sure he’ll want to give some players a break

Injuries such as Denver Hume, Bailey Wright and Tom Flanagan are putting Sunderland under particularly heavy duty on defense, meaning the Black Cats boss has no choice but to stick to the current combination of players who hold their turn back

Aside from a tactical game, it seems that Conor McLaughlin, Dion Sanderson and Luke O’Nien are still playing in the center-back, but if another injury strikes he could have a problem

This rules out Leadbitter for a significant period of time, which means Lee Johnson has to make some decisions in the central midfield

You can imagine that Max Power and Josh Scowen will be his preferred options, but with Carl Winchester currently out of match action, he may be granted more game time in the coming weeks

He was the man who saved Sunderland against Crewe, but Jordan Jones can’t crack the starting XI

Lee Johnson has stuck to Aiden McGeady, Charlie Wyke and Aiden O’Brien in his offensive positions, which means it was difficult for the Rangers man to find opportunities

Given his performance over the weekend, there’s no doubt Jones deserves to start against Swindon, but the challenge will be deciding who to replace on the team

Sunderland AF.C., Swindon Town FC., Lee Johnson, EFL League One, Grant Leadbitter, Stadium of Light
