While it is initially about the disappearance of the ships in real life, the show takes a fictional and supernatural twist for the remaining episodes – inspired by the horror novel of the same name

The first episode begins with the story of the ships HMS Terror and HMS Erebus, which left England in 1845 for their expedition to the Northwest Passage. The ships, consisting of 24 officers and 110 men on board, never returned after being in the Arctic Caught in ice

The drama then moves through time, giving an idea of ​​what could have happened then between 1846 and 1847

In real life, the two ships, led by Captain Franklin, had a disaster and the crews were eventually killed in cold weather and arctic conditions
