News – US – Cubs: Javier Baez leaves spring training game after being HBP

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – 12 SEPTEMBER: Javier Baez # 9 of the Chicago Cubs waits in the deck circle in the second inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Sept. September 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Photo by Dylan Buell / Getty Images)

Baez was probably removed as a precaution, but he was in visible pain after being drilled on the hand by a Cleveland Indian pitcher. Since this is spring training, the HBP was obviously unintentional

Javy and the Cubs are in a tough spot as he awaits a contract renewal but has had a tough 2020 season, like many baseball stars like the 60-game shortened campaign was an odd one in the sport and has many of these great athletes kept away from their routines and normal game day expectations

Javier Báez was hit by a Cal Quantrill pitch Friday afternoon. Was in pain but didn’t seem serious No reason to keep him No official word yet from Cubs ImageTwittercom / 7vjc9Pnizn

By the time we hear more from the Cubs medical staff, yes Baez has had a rough year and the Cubs were hoping to get him off to a solid start into spring training in hopes of reviving the 2019 version of Javy / p>
Talks about contract extensions are being filed for now as the Cubs are working to bring Baez back to full strength Any hand or bone bruise can keep the star off for a few days to a few weeks, but at this point it’s just speculation / p>
