News – US – Has Butch Hartman, creator of ‘Fairly OddParents’, plagiarized another artist’s fanart for money?

On Saturday (February 23), Hartman, creator of the hit Nickelodeon animated series’ The Fairly Odd Parents’ and Danny Phantom, posted a commissioned drawing by Mikasa Ackerman, a character from Attack on Titan

Fans accused Hartman of tracking down a piece of Mikasa fanart by a Japanese artist named @ 028ton on Twitter

The original drawing by @ 028ton from 2018 quickly brought in over 90000 likes and 20000 retweets as fans, followers, and fellow artists gathered to publicize Hartman’s allegedly copied commissioned work. Hartman-commissioned artwork can be purchased on his website for more than $ 200

“I received the report that my fan art was plagiarized I checked the tweets and found many similarities to my work In addition, there was a chance that money was being made and I urge you to see it,” wrote @ 028ton on Twitter “You do not have permission to use the images. If you see products in the future that use the same work of art, please do not buy them”

This is hardly Hartman’s first controversy, the animator and showrunner has been grappling with controversy for the past three years surrounding his Kickstarter campaign for OAXIS Entertainment, which he called a “family-friendly” alternative to streaming services

Hartman has been accused of misleading supporters of OAXIS by failing to include on Kickstarter that the company would have a religious affiliation. A video surfaced at a Christian conference in which Hartman said, “We are going to save families and speak to them in parables. My things have to be hip in order to reach secular people, ”describes OAXIS

The animator also came under fire for making comments about minimizing mental health and blaming modern media for mental illness and suicide

Hartman left Nickelodeon in 2018 and has since moved to YouTube to become an independent creator
