MADISON, Wis (WMTV) – A mother from Wisconsin will be one of 24 people featured in a new cancer awareness campaign next month

Linda Graffin of Deerfield was diagnosed with Stage II colon cancer at the age of 42. At the time, she was also a caregiver for her sister, who was diagnosed in 2015. Graffin says her sister is the reason she keeps fighting

“I am fighting for my sister who died of colon cancer in 2017, and I am fighting for myself. I had stage II colon cancer, but it would have probably been stage IV if it hadn’t been. I think colon cancer should have been in October.” Having the Breast Cancer Awareness Month shine. My passion is to raise awareness of differences in access to care and the fact that this disease can happen to young people, ”said Graffin

Colon and rectal cancer are the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the USAS, according to Fight Colorectal Cancer – an organization that campaigns for colorectal cancer Among men and women combined, the organization says 60 percent of deaths from colon cancer could be prevented through screening

Graffin was selected as the Fight CRC Ambassador and has volunteered for a year to raise awareness of the importance of screening by using her personal story to save lives

Her story is one of the many stories featured in the No Excuses campaign that kicks off in New York’s Time Square the first week of March – Colon Cancer Awareness Month

According to Fight CRC, research has shown personal stories are one of the most effective motivators when it comes to screening people for colon and rectal cancer. Graffin hopes her story will help debunk the colon cancer myths and those who delay the screening, to encourage people to drop the excuses
