The Titans fullback goes 90m to score under the posts! Some very tired Knights defence, Brimson just carves them to ribbons then leaves Kalyn Ponga in his wake as he streaks away to score. Super young player and you better believe Kevin Walters will have him in the Maroons squad. Titans now lead 22-6 early in the second half.
They haven’t been the better side but they haven’t had much luck either. Mitch Pearce was certain he’d scored there but lost the ball as he went for the put-down. The 16-6 scoreline from the half remains. Now the Titans make the most of a seven-tackle set with a set restart.
The Gold Coast playing well once again and a home final now in danger for Newcastle. And Jacob Saifiti on report for a crusher as well, so he may well be in doubt for week one of the finals. Nicely poised at Robina for a good second half.
Brian Kelly with the hammer blow. The pass from Jamal Fogarty was very rusty and only saved by an athletic piece of play from Spry, who leaps over the sideline to pass it back infield and keep it alive. Kelly was on hand to grab it and forge his way over the line… great finish. Titans now leading 16-6 with the sideline conversion to come.
Edrick Lee won’t be denied this time. Fumbles the pass but gets over in the corner and the Knights are on the board in very timely fashion. It’s 12-6 five minutes out from the break. Lee has been a handful when he’s got his hands on the ball. Denied by CMs earlier, now gets the pay day for his side.
Ponga puts on the footwork to make Taylor pay for rushing up but Spry gets to the kick first for the Titans. Saves the try but now they have to keep them at bay for another set.
The Gold Coast forwards have been very good thus far tonight and have set up that 12-0 lead. Just eight minutes to go in the first half as the Knights now earn a repeat set. They need something out of this period of play – just 39 per cent of the ball for Newcastle. That makes things difficult.
The Titans were pressing and pressing and over they go… Mitch Rein has been great for the Titans since his return and he spots some tired defenders. Goes over from dummy-half, under the tackle of Guerra, and under the posts. The Gold Coast on top here and lead 12-0, Newcastle’s home finals prospects in doubt at the moment.
Kevin Proctor with the drop and that is a life for the Knights. They were under the pump big-time there, repeat sets, six again and they were looking very good before a simple error from the big Kiwi there as he took on the line. Still 6-0 to the Titans and this is a decent game here on the Gold Coast.
This time it’s Edrick Lee. The big winger scrambled over and looked home and hosted but the boot has found the sideline just before the ball hit the turf. Titans under siege here but still have a 6-0 lead.
