Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has given insight on the club’s ongoing signing spree that will see over 10 new faces arrive at Chloorkop.

Sundowns have been dominating transfer news of late and are believed to have already landed 11 new players ahead of the 2020/21 season.

This despite The Brazilians having rounded off the 2019/20 campaign with a historic domestic treble, which includes their third Absa Premiership title in succession.

Though not confirming any names, Mosimane has explained that he is not planning a squad overhaul but merely preparing to build a new squad to succeed the current crop, which are mostly over the age of 30.

« We also deserve a chance to sign a few players now. Everybody has been signing, so give us a chance, Chad. Let’s sign also, » said Mosimane, when quizzed over the high number of new arrivals expected ahead of next season.

« We only signed two last year and the myth and perception is that we are signing a lot of players without acknowledging the Promise Mkhumas, Pitso Mkhulises, Nico Lukhubenis, Abrams [Ngcobo].

« We’ve put these MDC players on the pitch and we’ve put them also in the starting line-up for the biggest games, so we don’t sign because we have to sign, as I’ve told you.

« There’s not [going to be] an overhaul because we must be very careful. The guys who have been winning the titles, majority of them are the senior, most important players.

« So, we are not rocking the boat here. All we are doing is we have to sign enough for a few years, and when we had injuries this year we struggled a little bit.

« But it’s also important to build a team under a successful team. We have a very, very good successful team – look at the history, 10 titles is huge.

« Three [league titles] in a row, five in the last seven years, CAF Champions League, Club World Cup – it’s a team that has been playing more than 50 games a year.

« You’ve got to consider all those things that has been happening for many years – seven years qualifying for Champions League, I mean that’s huge guys.

« You’ve got to understand that the mileage is getting higher and higher, but we need those players to teach the younger ones that are coming, we need them to guide them.

« So, there’s not an overhaul. We have to also accept that the average age of the group was not very good and convincing, because a lot of players are 30-plus.

« So, it’s normal, like any other club. We have to try and support the main team – the big team that [won] the treble now. »
