Sony on Wednesday 16 September hosted its much-anticipated September Showcase and finally revealed the PS5 price. Sony said in a press release:

“This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5”.

If you’ve missed out on the PS5 event, fret not. We’ll share all the biggest announcements in due course. However, what we’re most excited about is that Sony finally confirmed what the console would cost.

The wait is over, Sony’s next-gen console will be priced $499 for the PS5 console and $399 for the Digital Edition. Both devices will be available from 19 November 2020; some countries will be getting it on 12 November.

Do note that the South African retail price will probably be much more than $499.99 (R8 128) for the PS5 and $399.99 (R6 515) for the Digital Edition.

If the price point for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S was anything to go by, we shouldn’t be getting our hopes up. Microsoft also confirmed that the Xbox Series X will be priced at $499.

However, while $499 equals R8 128, Xbox SA announced that the Series X would cost R11 999 in South Africa, while the X Box Series S will be priced R6 999. It hardly seems fair, but I digress.

We predicted earlier that the PS5 console would be priced at R10 999 in South Africa. Close enough? We’ll see.

Sony will release the PS5 consoles in “seven key markets” from 12 November 2020. Those markets include the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

The global rollout of the much-anticipated consoles will continue on 19 November 2020, with launches throughout the rest of the world, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa.

Pre-orders will be available from tomorrow, Thursday 17 September 2020 at select retailers. Sony confirmed that the following accessories will also be launching in November 2020:

Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XVI will be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC in 2021. Here’s what we…
