The Jacksonville Jaguars must be sick of the sight of Ryan Fitzpatrick, after the veteran quarterback rewrote NFL history as he led the Miami Dolphins to a 31-13 win in Jacksonville on Thursday Night Football.

According to data from Elias Sports Bureau, the win means Fitzpatrick has recorded at least one win against the Jaguars while playing for six different teams, the first NFL player to do so in at least seven decades.

The 37-year-old has now defeated Jacksonville as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Dolphins in his career. Overall, Fitzpatrick is 6-2 against the Jaguars.

After being selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft, Fitzpatrick had to bide time before his first taste of success against the Jaguars, which came three years later when he steered the Bengals to a 21-19 win. Four years later, in his final season in Buffalo, he helped the Bills to a 34-18 win over Jacksonville, repeating the feat 12 months later in a Titans uniform as Tennessee defeated their AFC South rivals 20-16.

In the following season, Fitzpatrick helped the Texans to a 27-13 win over Jacksonville and a year later he orchestrated the Jets’ 28-23 victory over the Jaguars.

To put things into perspective, of the eight franchises Fitzpatrick has played for, the Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only two he hasn’t defeated the Jaguars with—he was the backup quarterback when the Rams defeated the Jaguars in 2005 and the Bucs didn’t play Jacksonville during his two-season spell in Tampa Bay.

The former Harvard alumnus could be a thorn into the Jaguars’ side for a while longer after making clear he has no intention to retire just yet.

« Especially when you’re having success, driving the ball down the field, scoring touchdowns. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world sometimes getting to play football with my friends. »

On Thursday night, Fitzpatrick finished 18-of-20 for 160 passing yards and two touchdowns for a 133.3 passer rating, to which he added 38 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

Fitzpatrick hit Preston Williams for a three-yard touchdown halfway through the first quarter to open the scoring, before Jordan Howard added a rushing touchdown later in the period as Miami took a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. In the second quarter, Fitzpatrick restored the Dolphins’ 14-point margin as he capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki.

It marked the first time since 2011 Miami scored in its first three drives, while Fitzpatrick completed his first 12 passes—a career-high. The win over the Jaguars was also the Dolphins’ first double-digit win in 39 attempts, the longest such streak in the league.

Miami improved to 1-2 with the win in Jacksonville after back-to-back losses to AFC East rivals New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills in the opening two weeks of the season, while the Jaguars fell to 1-2 and have now lost two in a row.
