Gunners fans are waiting to see if any more business will be done before the summer transfer window closes
It’s transfer deadline day and Arsenal fans are waiting to see if the Gunners will do any more business in the market.
Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is set to join Atletico Madrid on loan, having passed a medical with the Spanish side.
Spanish football expert Semra Hunter of LaLiga TV has provided a deadline day update on the situation.
On Torreira, she told Sky Sports: « That is on standby at the moment. He is in Madrid, he had his medical a couple of days ago. You could see him wearing his mask with the Atletico Madrid badge on it.
« He’s all ready to go – he passed that with flying colours. The problem now is that Atletico Madrid have to offload somebody at the very least.
« And it is looking like it is going to be either Thomas Lemar or Hector Herrera, or a combination of the two. The problem is that neither of them has a transfer deal in the works at this particular moment in time. »
Hunter added: « When it comes to Thomas Partey, now they (Atletico) have said he is intransferable – they are not going to sell him – but if Chelsea or Arsenal are interested, then they will have to pay his release clause of 50million euros.
« As of right now, that hasn’t been activated – but it still could be by the end of the day.
« But as of right now, he is staying put. Atletico Madrid are counting on Thomas Partey and they have to get rid of someone else in order to make Torreira official. »
It seems Atletico’s transfer policy this summer revolves around plans to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.
« They are playing a different strategy this summer, » said Hunter. « They have decided to either sell or loan 16 different players.
« They are trying to raise capital and what they want to do is bring in Kylian Mbappe.
« They wanted to do it this summer but that was before the pandemic, so once that happened, they shelved it and said, ‘OK, let’s focus on next summer then’.

« They know they can get him for free in 2022 but I don’t think they want to wait that long. They want to swoop in for him next year, so they are raising the capital to do so.
« His price was originally around 300million euros but now it looks like maybe they could get him for about half that price.
« That is the plan. They didn’t bring anybody in and are trying to raise as much money as they possibly can to go for the Frenchman. »
