THIS Morning fans bombarded the show with criticism today after it showed viewers how to lose a stone in 21 days.
Dr Michael Mosley appeared via a video link from his Buckinghamshire home explaining how to shed weight rapidly by eating 800 calories a day.
Others insisted the advice, which will be aired on Channel 4’s Lose A Stone in 21 Days tonight, was « extremely dangerous ».
Dr Michael insisted the diet would tip the body into fat-burning mode, saying: « You have a huge amount of energy stored in your body in the form of fat. »
One This Morning fan tweeted: « Can you lose a stone in 21 days ? YES but you SHOULD NOT. I am disgusted that they’re promoting this its not healthy! »
Another said: « This sounds irresponsible and unhealthy!! I’m only petite but need way more than 800 calories. Extreme dieting can’t be good for anyone. »
A third raged: « Stop promoting this extremely dangerous advice that will lead to ppl having serious health problems and eating disorders. »
However, others insisted the method worked and wasn’t a hardship, tweeting: « Only having 800 cals 2 days a week & I’ve lost 11Ilb without really trying. »
Dr Michael, who says he managed to reverse his Type 2 diabetes by overhauling his diet, is a regular on TV programmes including The One Show.
He is credited with popularising the 5:2 diet, where you eat normally on five days but only 500-600 on the other two.
