ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday vowed to bring misguided police and those involved in the looting and destruction of public and private property to justice following the #EndSARS protests, urging all citizens to take advantage of the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to reflect on the virtues of the Holy Prophet by showing love and understanding towards his fellow citizens

This, he said, they could do by showing patience, honesty, sincerity, kindness and generosity in all their endeavors

This came as President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, l ‘Oba from Benin, N’Oba Ewuare 11, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, also facilitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the celebration of Eid-El-Maulud

President Buhari, in his message to Nigerians, especially Muslim worshipers as they mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad, urged all citizens, and young people in particular, to flee any negative tendencies that are manifested in the recent hijacking of peaceful protests to loot and destroy public and private property

In a statement by his senior special assistant for media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, he reiterated his earlier pledge to bring to justice the police officers responsible for malpractice as well as the looters

On the COVID-19 pandemic, President Buhari, while noting that the country has so far managed the problem successfully by keeping the numbers as low as possible, however warned that Nigerians must not stretch their luck too much

He said: “Looking at trends in other countries, we must do all we can to avoid the second wave of the pandemic We need to make sure that our cases, which have gone down, do not recover Our economy is too fragile to withstand another cycle of lockdown « 

Senator Lawan, called on Muslims across the country, in the spirit of Eid-el-Maulud to embrace peace, love and tolerance

He noted that this year’s celebration comes at a time when Nigeria is working to restore law and order following the disapproval of the #EndSARS protest

In a statement yesterday from Special Media Advisor Ola Awoniyi, Lawan said: “Our heartbreaking experience over the past few weeks underscores the need for us, as people of faith, to imbibe and to demonstrate in each of our behavior the virtues of love, peace and tolerance that the prophet Mohammed personifies

« This difficult time demands that our prayers and supplications to Allah come in to restore peace and love to the neighbors of our land. However, it also requires us to introspect into the roles we play as leaders. and individual citizens in building the nation we want

« Having made their arguments in their patriotic demands for better policing and better political governance, and having secured the government’s commitment to resolve the issues they have raised, I urge our young people to, in the spirit of this occasion, embrace peace and engage the government through dialogue, because the corrections they seek can only be manifested in a peaceful atmosphere « 

Governor Ugwuanyi, in his goodwill message, conveyed the congratulations of the government and people of Enugu State to President Buhari and other Muslim devotees, saying it was through prayers intensified, unwavering faith in God and a commitment to the founding core values ​​of the nation fathers that the country’s efforts to maintain peace, unity and progress will be fully actualized

The governor noted that the Islamic event was timely and remarkable, as it will go a long way to reinvigorate the virtues of peaceful coexistence, unity, faith, sacrifice, obedience, love, tolerance and charity, as evidenced by the deeds and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad

Governor Makinde, in a statement by Chief Press Secretary Taiwo Adisa, congratulated Muslim worshipers in the state and Nigeria for attending Eidul-Maulid 2020

The governor instructed them to imbue themselves with the spirit of love, patience and perseverance which he believes are virtues of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), stating that this will ensure peace and security in the state and the country as a whole

Governor Abiodun, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Kunle Somorin, urged all citizens to re-dedicate themselves to the teachings and exemplary life of the Holy Prophet

He also urged Muslim worshipers to continue to observe social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols, despite the flattening of the coronavirus curve in the state

The monarch of Benin, in a statement to Benin City yesterday, through his acting press secretary, Mr. Victor Ogiemwanre, urged the Muslim faithful to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad by adopting peace and harmonious coexistence

He reminded them that every religion condemns violence in its entirety and hatred for each other

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, urged Nigerians to stand up to those who hijacked the #EndSARS unrest and now use it as a platform to incite violence across the country

In the message from the Deputy National Secretary for Party Advertising, Mr. Yekini Nabena, APC said, as explained in the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, that Islam is centered on belief in Allah, devotion and service to humanity

He called on Nigerians to take the opportunity of Eid-El-Maulud to pray for peace, progress and unity of the nation

The PDP urged Nigerians, especially leaders, to use this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebrations to spark a national renaissance with actions capable of solving the challenges the country faces

The party also tasked all believers across the country to take the opportunity to pray for God’s guidance and intervention to enable Nigeria to overcome its current social, economic and security challenges

In a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesperson for the PDP, the party noted that Eid-el Maulud, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, « offers us as a nation an invaluable opportunity to reposition our value system in pursuit of national unity, equity and social justice; respect for the rule of law, respect for human rights, well-being of the population, transparency, accountability and prudence in governance while avoiding all acts of corruption and oppression that cause bitterness, ‘turmoil and division among the population «
